Break the Rule Be Normal using communication challenge # 2.
Gift, Donate, Toss.
This challenge will give you the opportunity to review your authentic tastes, rather than conforming to standards of expression that are accepted by our environment and culture.
When we attempt to fit in by modifying how and what we communicate to others, we fall into a habit of false expression.
Obviously we express ourselves with words and actions, but we also communicate who we are through the objects we surround ourselves with—things we purchase, own, wear, drive, or display.
Old objects we hang on to can hold us back from being more authentic today in our lives. These can include:
notes and papers we'll never actually review
books on topics we're not interested in
a trophy or award from a different phase of life
clutter that distracts us from our purpose
artwork created by your child who now has children of his own
Remove one item from your workspace that is no longer reflects the authentic you, whether it's a home workspace or a company workspace..
Objects can bind us to the norms of our own personal history.
This action is to clear one piece of that history.
It doesn't matter what you pick.
As long as you take a few minutes to find one object in your workspace that no longer suits who you are or who you intend to be . . . and then move it along . . . you've succeeded.
Something you wrote, digital files, or a piece of furniture like an old chair.
Your job is to identify an object that was acquired by an old version of yourself who was just trying to fit in.
Now you're going to take one step toward authenticity by getting rid of it.
Gift, donate, or toss whatever provides a false definition of who you actually are, or who you intend to be.
Make Break a Rule an incredible tool for everyone.
